KFO Maker Challenge

The Kingston Film Office presents the Maker Challenges!  Led by Queen's University Film & Media students, learn how to create content remotely from the comfort of your home.

Featuring 4 platforms to choose from, you will be guided in a live Zoom session on how to create your own masterpieces using a variety of different freely-available platforms. Register for the information sessions to learn more, with no commitment to participate in the actual Maker Challenges.  Sign-up for as many sessions as you’d like!

At the end of the Juvenis Festival, your work will be showcased to the Community in a live presentation featuring everyone's masterpiece!

WHAT TO DO:

-Choose one (or more) platforms you wish to learn about
-Attend the live info session(s) and learn how to use each platform
-Projects can be done individually, or you can work remotely as a social-distanced team
-Come up with your concept...

Tik Tok 

Be the star of your own show! Learn how to make short form videos on your phone and explore different genres. 

Stop Motion Studio 

Create characters and learn how you can make your very own animated short story, with an easy-to-use stop motion animation studio on your phone.

Twine

Instead of playing video games, why not create one? Learn how to create interactive stories that come to life.

One-shot Movie

If you dream of being your own director, this one is for you! Challenge yourself with just a cellphone and some creative vision, creating a short video with no cuts allowed.

Important Dates:

Please note that by attending the Information Sessions, you are not required to participate in the rest of the challenge. 

  • Information Sessions: Thursday April 29

    The introductory information sessions show you how to use your platform and what you can create!  Each platform will have a 1 hour long Zoom info-session that includes lots of time for questions.  Sign-up for as many as you’d like.
    -5:00pm: TikTok

    -7:00pm: Twine
    -8:00pm: One Shot Video Production

  • Second Chance Workshops: Sunday May 2
    The optional check-in sessions let you check-in with your challenge leaders with any questions you might have.

    Project Deadline: Thursday May 6, 8:00pm
    Your final projects are due by 8:00pm on Thursday May 6th, so that they can get ready for final presentation.

    Public Presentation: Saturday May 8, 6:30pm EST
    Highlights from everyone’s projects will be presented on YouTube Live, Saturday May 8 at 6:30pm, then full projects will be made available here on the Juvenis website.
